Students with teacher

In October last year an intrepid, and perhaps brave, representative group of parents, staff and students began a review of our College Uniform. Since then we have met each fortnight and engaged in robust discussions to come up with a shared plan.

The following excerpt comes from our Terms of Reference:

Role of Committee
The primary roles of this group are:

1. to complete a comprehensive review of the College Uniform as we encounter many societal changes in the way people dress now and in the future whilst also considering our current Uniform policy, style and branding.
2. to make recommendations for any major changes to the College Executive.

Functions of the Committee
Review the:

1. image we want to project to current and future families? i.e. what we want our uniform to say about Sacred Heart College. Consider our history, our heritage and our tradition.
2. trends we are seeing amongst our student body with regard to their uniform.
3. practicality, comfort, style, colour, fashion, choices, rules, enforceability, gender inclusiveness, availability, current stock holding and cost of our current Uniforms for all students/families.

Review the following uniforms:
1. winter and summer formal uniforms for both genders
2. winter and summer sporting uniforms for both genders
3 . House shirts

I am very pleased that this group has worked beautifully together and that we have been ably supported by the amazing Mrs Meg Moreton, our Uniform Shop Manager.

There will be no change to our House Shirts, but we will make significant changes to our winter and summer uniforms. These changes will commence for our new Year 7 students in summer 2019 and for our current Year 9 students in winter 2019, when they are in Year 10. It is unavoidable that this one group will be affected earlier than others.

We want this particular cohort, our Year 9 2018 parents, to know of these changes at least 12 months in advance so that they know not to purchase new items of our current uniform.

The phase in of our new uniform will follow this sequence.

2019
• Year 7 - must purchase NEW SUMMER ready for Term 1
• Year 8 - old uniform
• Year 9 - old uniform
• Year 10 - must purchase NEW WINTER ready for Term 2
• Year 11 - old uniform
• Year 12 - old uniform

2020
• Year 7 - must purchase NEW SUMMER ready for Term 1
• Year 8 - already in new uniform
• Year 9 - old uniform
• Year 10 - must purchase NEW WINTER ready for Term 2
• Year 11 - already in new uniform
• Year 12 - old uniform

2021
• Year 7 - must purchase NEW SUMMER ready for Term 1
• Year 8 - already in new uniform
• Year 9 - already in new uniform
• Year 10 - must purchase NEW WINTER ready for Term 2
• Year 11 - already in new uniform
• Year 12 - already in new uniform

We are very excited by the new uniform we have agreed upon and hope that it is well accepted by all students and families.

The Uniform Committee will make final recommendations to the College Executive in early Term 2 (conveniently while I am on leave!) and the Uniforms will be displayed widely after they are approved.
